What is Invisalign®?
Invisalign® is an orthodontic system that uses plastic trays instead of wires and bands to help straighten teeth and move them into their correct alignment. Many patients prefer Invisalign® to “regular” braces because the clear plastic trays are virtually invisible while they're being worn, and they can be removed when eating or during brushing and flossing. Their smooth design also means they tend to be more comfortable than traditional braces.
What happens during treatment with Invisalign®?
Invisalign® treatment begins with an impression or mold of your mouth and teeth. The impression is sent to a lab and scanned by a computer that uses special software to create a series of virtual models of your mouth, showing the movements your teeth will have to make to become properly aligned. Using these models, plastic trays are created that help move your teeth into position over time. Each tray is worn for about two weeks.
What are veneers?
Veneers are thin coverings that are placed on the surface of a tooth to address stains and discoloration as well as small cracks or chips. They can also be used to change the proportions and shapes of teeth, to correct the appearance of some alignment issues, and to hide gaps between teeth. Veneers are durable and are applied usually in two visits. During the first visit, a small amount of tooth material is removed to accommodate the veneer, and an impression is made and sent to a lab. A temporary veneer will be placed on the tooth to protect it. At the second visit, the temporary veneer is removed and the permanent veneer is cemented in place.
